(More customer reviews)I purchased this bed for my 3 year old (for her third birthday)after considering many other "princess" type beds including loft beds. I wanted something fun but durable. It arrived via freight. The instructions are simple and took my husband about an hour and a half to put together. The pieces snap together and then large screws firmly hold all pieces in place. You will need some strength to snap a few of the pieces. I also highly recommend an electric screwdriver (in fact the instructions call for it). The instructions also call for a 7" mattress. This is necessary for the side railings to be effective. If you have an older child this requirement shouldn't be too much of a concern. The bed comes with an LED light that runs on 3 AAA batteries. This light is very weak and you should not expect your child to be able to read by this light. There is also no Auto shut off. The good thing is that the light doesn't heat up at all. Also, this bed takes up more space than what is shown in the picture (looks like a toddler bed but is really a twin) so note the measurements when ordering. You will need some space. My daughter had no trouble transitioning from a crib to this bed. There are several shelves and cubbies for her books and toys. The bed supports up to 300 lbs and cleans up easily with mild soap and water. This bed is very sturdy and I would call it "heirloom quality"! The recommended age is 3 and up - perfect for preschool and grade school age.
